I only recently started using an assistant at weddings, I never felt I was “important” enough, but the more weddings I shoot the more I realize how much this has helped me and helped those who have assisted me. Greg, my trusty (All round great guy) assistant is always asking questions and I know he has taken the lessons learnt and used them whenever he shoots.
Greg is only available 0n Saturdays so I am looking for assistants for Sunday weddings as well as the odd Friday wedding. There will also be Saturday weddings from time to time when Greg is unavailable.
As an assistant you would be carrying bags, holding off-camera flashes, reflectors etc on the day. It is an opportunity to learn an incredible amount by watching and asking questions on the job without the pressure of being the photographer.
One thing to stress up front is that this is not a paid position at this stage. I can offer you access to what is in my head, advice and info on what I am doing when I am doing it. I think it would be a great way to learn the business. You do not need experience, but you must be willing to learn and have a ready smile.
You will need to be responsible, have a good sense of humour and be calm under pressure (although the pressure will all be in my head :-) ). If you are interested please send an email to quintin(at)millsphotography.co.za with your thoughts and expectations.

Sumien Wood - Hi, I would love an opportunity to assist during a shoot. There is always so much more to a profession and to be able to see and experience what happens behind the scenes would be amazing. At the moment Im working on my a portfolio to try and approach the world of wedding photography. I love working with people and capturing that split seconds of emosions is so special, but to be able to do that and do it with an artistic eye, and not just snap away takes time and guidance. Its also what I believe makes photography as a profession and an art both challenging and rewarding…
Kind Regards
